Kongsberg Geospatial is proud to announce the launch of the Digital Aerodrome Air Traffic Services (DAATS) project, a multi-year initiative that underscores our longstanding partnership with NAV CANADA. Hosted at our headquarters, this launch represents both a significant milestone for the DAATS program and an exciting new chapter in our collaborative journey.
A Partnership Rooted in Innovation
Our partnership with NAV CANADA traces back to 1996, when NAV CANADA became the world’s first fully privatized civil air navigation service provider (ANSP). At that time, Kongsberg Geospatial operated under the name Gallium Visual Systems and was involved in the development of the Canadian Automated Air Traffic System (CAATS). Since then, NAV CANADA and Kongsberg Geospatial have continuously collaborated, building one of the longest-standing partnerships in air traffic management and aviation safety.
From the beginning, our joint mission has been clear: advancing air traffic services through innovation. NAV CANADA’s formation was a pivotal moment in Canadian civil aviation, setting a new standard for ANSPs globally. For us, it marked the start of a commitment to technological progress and safety in air navigation that has only grown over the decades.
Nearly Three Decades of Pioneering Achievements
Our collaboration has spanned almost three decades, during which we have worked side-by-side to address complex challenges in air traffic management. Together, we’ve leveraged our combined expertise and cutting-edge technology to tackle some of the industry’s most pressing issues, from early air traffic control system innovations to today’s advanced digital air traffic solutions.
This continuous evolution has brought us to the DAATS initiative, an ambitious new project that builds on our previous work in digital and remote tower technology. The DAATS project will harness the latest advancements in Digital Towers and situational awareness to transform aerodrome operations across Canada, setting a new benchmark for safety and efficiency in air traffic services.
A Shared Vision for the Future of Air Traffic Services
The DAATS project is more than a technological advancement—it’s a testament to our shared commitment with NAV CANADA to push the boundaries of innovation in air navigation. As we embark on this new journey, our focus remains on enhancing safety, operational flexibility, and situational awareness in Canada’s airspace.
Together with NAV CANADA, we’re shaping the future of air traffic services in Canada and setting an example for ANSPs around the world. We look forward to the continued development of the DAATS project and are excited to lead the way toward a safer and more innovative future in aviation.
