Job Description

Kongsberg Geospatial is seeking an experienced Project Director to join our innovative team revolutionizing air traffic services (ATS) and ultimately lead a nation-wide deployment in Canada.  We will be collaborating with our parent company in Norway to bring Kongsberg’s cutting-edge Remote Towers Solutions technology to Canada to support the NAVCANADA DAATS program. This role will work closely with the Project Director from Norway to learn the processes and technology involved before taking overfull project responsibility.  These digital towers replace traditional air traffic control towers with high-definition cameras, sensors, and communication technologies to allow air traffic controllers to manage airport operations from a remote operating centre. The Project Director role will assume overall responsibility for this multi-year project with primary responsibility for management, planning, progress, and reporting. The Project Director will report into the President and Managing director of Kongsberg Geospatial. It is crucial for the role to have extensive cross-functional project management experience, preferably with implementation of projects from inception to completion that include managing a team of Project coordinators and/or managers.

This is a on-site position working out of our Ottawa, Ontario office.

Duties include:

  • Management of interdisciplinary project teams.
  • Own the planning and execution of multiple project activities, including design, implementation, verification, delivery, support.
  • Planning and implementation of projects with a focus on goals, resources and risk management.
  • Strategically manage large scale, multi million-dollar projects spanning several years.
  • Negotiations and follow-up of contracts with customers to ensure mutual understanding and fulfillment.
  • Ensure good interaction and communication between all stakeholders involved in the projects' various phases.
  • Identify and implement strategies to improve team efficiency in resolving issues and effectiveness of providing support to internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain awareness of goals of all project stakeholders and provide all stakeholders with timely and accurate project information and status.
  • Identify project risks, develop and implement risk management, and adapt the overall project plan accordingly.
  • Prepare and refine project requirements, ensuring alignment across multiple project stakeholders.

You Have:

  • A Canadian security clearance or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Computer Science, Software or Systems Engineering degree preferred; or a combination of education and working experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a cross-functional engineering project leadership role.
  • Independently driven with high sense of ownership, urgency, and proven ability to lead and influence. Experience working with customers, subcontractors and vendors in various levels, technical and business relationship engagements.
  • Proven experience leading cross-functional teams in the successful execution of large-scale projects.
  • Ability to manage and guide multi-year and multi-million dollar projects.
  • Excellent internal and external communications skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in the design, analysis, integration and test of mission critical software systems.
  • Strong exposure towards systems engineering, software engineering and contribution towards technical solution discussions.
  • Must have strong organization and documentation skills.
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced environment, under pressure to meet time critical deadlines.
  • PMP certification would be considered an asset
  • Experience managing a team of project managers would be considered an asset
