Ottawa, CA: Kongsberg Geospatial, an Ottawa-based developer of real-time, mission critical, geospatial and mapping software, wannounced today announced today that they will be exhibiting their latest IRIS UAS platform at the Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Traffic Management (UTM) symposium today in Syracuse, NY.
Kongsberg Geospatial has been providing technology for military UAS for over a decade, and is now actively working with industry and regulatory groups in the United States and Canada to develop a simple, portable display for civilian UAS operators and airspace managers that provides them with a unified spatial awareness picture combining a wide range of live data feeds into an easy to understand display format.
IRIS GCS is an airspace awareness platform developed to provide UAS operators or airspace managers with the necessary situational awareness to safely operate UAS Beyond Visual Line-of-Sight (BVLOS). The platform presents users with a 3D picture of the operational airspace, and integrates real-time track data from a variety sensors and cameras along with information such as obstacles and restricted airspaces, all fused within a single, common operating picture.
Kongsberg Geospatial has been working with government and industry partners to conduct field trials of the platform over the past two years, and has successfully integrated and tested the simultaneous display of a wide variety of real-time sensor data sources including ADS-B, PrecisionHawk LATAS™, Harris NEXTGEN™, Gryphon Sensors and Airmap® feeds.
“We describe IRIS UAS as an ‘airspace awareness’ application, because it is a very powerful tool for visualizing everything that’s going on in the airspace”, explained company president, Ranald McGillis. “With this wide range of sensor integration, we can get an unprecedented picture of unmanned air traffic by simultaneously leveraging several different kinds of positional data that gives a more comprehensive picture of the airspace than RADAR alone – especially with very low-flying unmanned aircraft.”
The company claims that the latest iteration of the IRIS UAS platform is the most comprehensively integrated application of this kind in the world, and plans to provide live demos of the software at the UTM 2016 symposium and trade show.
